POMEGRANATE (PUNICA GRANATUM)

The Pomegranate is a red fruit with a size between a lemon and a grapefruit, 5-12cm in diameter with a rounded hexagonal shape. It has a thick reddish skin and around 600 seeds. The Pomegranate is native to Persia and Southwest Asia and is now also cultivated in parts of California and Arizona.
Pomegranate ripens in the fall and harvesting takes place any time from early August to late September.


In the functional food industry, Pomegranate is included in the novel category of exotic fruits called Superfruits. It is known for its nutrient rich content and delicious taste.


TASTE

Pomegranate can be sweet and sour. It is reminiscent of a cranberry, very tart and sweet.
